From the Editor
Our students are a constant source of delight. Their actions and attitude towards life demonstrates the effectiveness of our holistic teaching methodology.

Isha Vidhya, Cuddalore required the volleyball court to be topped with red sand to level it. A generous supporter sponsored a truck of red sand, but this needed to be carried over to the court and then patted down to level it, Before the school management could hire labourers, the senior students requested the Principal to give them the chance to do the work. They wanted the school to save the money for other developmental work.

The sense of ownership and desire to contribute towards the school makes us proud of our students. This would not have been possible without the committed efforts of the teachers. They have managed to teach not just the facts and figures, but also attitudes which will take the students far in life. Our school ayamas, drivers and other non-teaching staff members also display the same quality, to create a nurturing environment for the young citizens of the world.
Feature: Chess with Grandmasters – An event organized by Planetskool
Planetskool invited students of Cuddalore and Villupuram school to attend a fun-filled day at Chennai. The event was organized to wish luck to Grandmaster Vishwanathan Anand who was fighting for the World Chess Championship title and encourage children to play chess. Planetskool is the name of the disruptive educational platform built by Technovite Lab Pvt Ltd. Several events have been organized under the brand name Planetskool.

The trip to Chennai was memorable for all the participating 50 students from Isha Vidhya as most of the students came from remote villages and this was their first visit to Chennai. The students had to start at 4 am, so they spent the night at Isha Yoga Centre under the supervision of teachers and ayamas. This added to their excitement level. Early morning start did not deter their spirits. They were ready well before time, enjoying every minute of the bus ride and the sumptuous breakfast.

The buses from Villupuram and Cuddalore reached Guindy children's park, the scheduled meeting point. They were met by Suneet S Mausil, CEO of Technovite Lab. They took a tour of the park, delighting in animals and bird they saw there. Next, the students were taken to Periyar Science and Tech Museum where they saw a video show on the solar system. This interested them as they have a related lesson in geography. On seeing the 3D film on prehistoric period and modern age, the kids shouted with excitement and didn't wanted the show to end.

The main program was a chess competition at Semmozhi Poonga with grand masters R R Lakshman (from Tamil Nadu) and Imanchu Sharma (from Hariyana). Students from Don Bosco and Saint Bedes and Isha Vidhya Cuddalore and Villupuram competed with the grandmasters. The two grand masters started the game by playing the first move with the children followed suit. Most unexpectedly some of the Isha Vidhya students, who have have had almost nil training or exposure to competitive chess, were the last ones to quit.

After the game, a photo session with the grand masters took place, followed by a delayed lunch. Thus ended a most satisfying trip to Chennai, travel expenses of which were sponsored by CRM Swarna Air Travels. A special thank you to Mr. Suneet who created a wonderful event for the students and personally made them comfortable at every point.

Mr. Suneet shared his vision about globalization of education so that all the children get equal opportunity and equal level of education, and that no child is deprived of any thing because of caste, color or creed. He plans to visit Isha Vidhya school in March and has also offered to install planetskool in all Isha Vidhya schools. Free of cost. The software connects the school system with other schools to facilitate sharing of ideas.

Critical requirements: Quality of working environment has a big role to play in the way we perceive work. At Isha Vidhya we have always worked to provide nurturing schools so that the students embrace the process of learning. It becomes important to build classrooms that are well constructed, well lighted and pleasant to be in.

We are still in the process of increasing the classes up to 12th grade. To accommodate the senior classes, we need to build another 44 classrooms before start of the academic year 2014 – 2015.

Up to forty students can study in class, so construction of each new classroom means 40 students per year get the chance to create a better future for themselves. Cost per Class room, along with furniture. is INR 7,50,000 / USD 15,000 / GBP 10,000 .

We invite corporates and individuals to help us create this infrastructure. The cost of building classrooms is one major infrastructure expenditure in our total expenses. We hope you will help us reach out to all who believe quality education can bring positive changes in the society.
