Villupuram Teacher wins award:
Ms. P. Ambujam, Isha Vidhya Villupuram School teacher has won the 'Excellent Karadi Path Teacher' award for her outstanding performance in teaching the Karadi Path programme.
Science Exhibition:
Science exhibition "Veetuku oru vingyani", conducted by Pudhiya Thalaimurai, was held in Sabhaiya Vidhya Girls Higher Sec. School. Students from 400 schools participated in this contest.

Twelve students from Isha Vidhya Tuticorin participated in the exhibition. They formed 6 teams, two students in each team: Karthika and Kalpana presented the 'Speed sensor', Lavanya and Kayathri presented 'Hydraulic speed breaker', Subhashini and Bagavathi competed in the category 'Pollution in Tuticorin and global warming - How global warming is happening?' while Akash and Suthan participated in the 'Sound sensor' category. Parthiban and Susil formed a team for the 'Sand filtration and carbon filter' category and the last team of Navin and Sathish presented the topic 'Model of organic farm and preparation of amirtham gel'.
Music Competition:
Sahara school conducted 'Inter School Keyboard Competition' on Aug 15 where 25 students from various participated. Two students from Tuticorin school also participated in the competition and won the 2nd prize. Congratulations to S. Nithyashree (6th std) and S. Abarajithan (5th std)!
Science Express Train visits Cuddalore:
To create awareness about science among school students, the Ministry of Environment and Forest, Department of Science and Technology and Centre for Environment Education, had arranged for a science express train called “Bio-diversity special”. It was flagged off at Chennai and had been halting at various places, Cuddalore being one among them.

Since Cuddalore station is near IVMS Cuddalore school, the school ensured that the students didn't miss the golden opportunity of participating in the activities of the special train. The students from 7th to 9th standard were taken to the railway station to participate in the program.

On the platform, where the train was stationed, many science activities were held. Jayanth Nag, an Isha Vidhya Cuddalore student won a prize too. In the science express the students learnt about flora and fauna of India and the need for saving the environment. Children were allowed to conduct experiments (Joy of chemistry). There also Jayanth Nag was appreciated by the organizers and the public for the experiment he conducted.
Independence Day Celebration: India's 67th Independence Day was celebrated in Isha Vidhya schools despite rains at a number of locations. The day always inspires patriotic feelings especially with hoisting of the National flag and a March Past by the students. A short report from schools is presented:

Cuddalore: At Cuddalore School each of the four houses selected a motto
for themselves and presented it to the audience during the March Past. The motto were “Go green”, “Save nature for a bright future”, “Donate your organs” and “War for peace”. The students also presented a mass drill depicting India's national flag. The program ended with distribution of sweets.

Aragonda:
A cultural program was presented depicting aspects of Independent India. The teachers also shared stories about the condition of India before Independence, people who contributed during the Independence struggle and duties of citizens.

Villupuram:
At Villupuram school the students presented mass drill after which Abirami of 9th std, Akshaya of 7th std, Keerthana of 7th std and Nivedhitha of 9th std spoke about the importance of the day while the 6th std girls performed dance on the patriotic song ‘Thayin manikodi’. The program closed with distribution of sweets.

Dharmapuri:
It was a special occasion at Dharmapuri School as it was their 1st Independence day celebration. Two to three students from each class spoke about the significance of Independence as they understood it. The teachers also participated whole heartedly by singing patriotic songs. The Chief guest, Mr. Gnanasekaran, shared information on the process of getting independence from colonial rule and also reminded students about their responsibilities as citizens of the country.

Vanavasi:
A grand celebration was planned at Vanavasi School. Essay writing, elocution and vocabulary competitions were held a day before the Independence Day along with Volley Ball and Kabadi matches between houses. On the day of the celebration, 9th std students took a pledge to work for their country and sang “Vande Mataram”. A speech was delivered by the Vice Principal and students - Kowsalaya (8th std) and Naganadhini (6th std). A Throwball match was organized for teachers, loudly cheered by students. Winners of competitions held a day before were awarded prizes on Independence Day.

Tuticorin:
Students learning Karate demonstrated their skills in a show while rest of the school put up a well coordinated drill. In a presentation ceremony students who had participated in the Science Exhibition were given the participation certificates while the English teacher N. S. Lavanya was handed the appreciation certificate awarded by Karadi Tales Company.

Erode: Erode Isha Vidhya schools invited a special guest Mr. Kandasamy for the celebration. Mr. Kandasamy has been honoured for his relentless drive to increase awareness about importance of nature at school level.


After the Independence Day celebrations Mr. Kandasamy presented video clippings and explained about the process of conserving water and politicization of the river water issue. The film and discussion was an eye opener for the students and teachers alike. The video also showed the real beauty of the mountains and trees. Mr. Kandasamy will be conducting a trekking camp in Kodaikanal and he asked the school to join the camp. The school agreed to send 8th and 9th std students along with teachers for the camp.
Krishna Jayanti Celebration:
Birth of Lord Krishna is celebrated as Krishna Jayanti in India. Young students from all the schools were encouraged to dress up as Krishna and Radha. An offering was made to Krishna during puja and later the schools had cultural programs.
Kamarajar Birthday competition:
Kamarajar Academy Trust, Erode organized school level competitions on the occasion of Kamarajar's Birthday. Karamveer Kamarajar was the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu who revolutionized the education system with innovative schemes like free primary education for all, mid-day meal, etc. His birthday is celebrated as Educational Development Day in the state of Tamil Nadu.

Over 300 students from Isha Vidhya Agility School, Villupuram participated in competitions like drawing, handwriting and Tamil essay competitions. 92 students won prizes while four students received special prizes. The school was also presented with a memento for being the best skill development school for the year 2013-14.

S. Pugazhenthi - 8th std; I. Harini - 1st std; P. Sinduja – 5th std; V. Duwaragesh - 9th std were declared as special prize winners.
Aadi Peruku Celebration: Aadi, the monsoon month in Tamil Nadu, opens the doors of festivities in the state. 'Aadi Perukku' is the hope of multiplying prosperity, abundance and happiness.

Aadi Peruku celebration took place at Isha Vidhya Schools beginning of August. The day starts with expressing gratitude to water by offering flowers, fruits and incense at a water body. Water is essential for reaping a bountiful crop. The festival reminds people that their survival is dependent on water and thus it is important to conserve and care for it. This was followed by a cultural program where students presented skits, dance and songs.

Colours Day:
KG students of Vanavasi School celebrated ‘Colours Day’ in August. Daily use articles were grouped into four different colour groups and displayed on the wall. Students sang rhymes about colours and also participated in an activity based on traffic light colours. A mini quiz based on colours was conducted for the tiny tots. Malini, the kindergarten coordinator and Sushil talked about colours in nature and daily life. Distribution of sweets marked the end of an enjoyable day.
Drawing Competition :
Drawing and oratorical competitions were organized at Erode school. The students participated with enthusiasm and displayed a lot of talent.
Scouts & Guide Program:
Scouts and Guide program has been started at Erode School. The head of Scouts and Guide, Erode visited the school to share the guidelines of the program with the students and motivate them to join it.
'Veettukku Oru Vinjani' Science Exhibition:
The news channel Puthiyathalaimurai organized science exhibition in all the districts of Tamil Nadu titled "Veettukku Oru Vinjani" (A scientist in each house). In Cuddalore district the exhibition was held in August where Isha Vidhya Cuddalore students Barath R and Jayanth Nag participated.

The students Submitted two projects in the exhibition. The first was a device called "Smoke sensor for vehicles". The device sensor sends a signal for immobilization of the vehicle if emission level crossed the stipulated level. The students felt that if the government made it compulsory to fit the smoke sensor in all the vehicles, pollution could be drastically reduced.

The second project was about recycling used water from kitchen and bath to convert it into safe water for watering of plants. Given the alarming scenario of water shortage, practicing this could save a lot of water.

The judges and even the Inspector of Matric Schools were very impressed by the clear concise explanation given by the students. Dhinamani press reporter, impressed with these models, published the pictures in the newspaper. Cuddalore school also received the best participation certificate!
Trivesh wins the Tennis Tournament:
Trivesh, 4th std students of Nagercoil Isha Vidhya school, won the 3rd prize at the District Tennis tournament in 'Under 10 category'. The tournament was conducted by the Kanyakumari District Tennis Association.

Trivesh has been attending tennis classes conducted by Vadasery club. On being asked when he got the time to practice, he said that he found time after school as he manages to complete his studies in the school itself. Trivesh was a shy and timid child when he joined the school in the 1st std but now he comes forward and participates in all the activities. He is an intelligent, enthusiastic, inquisitive and energetic child.
Science Project 'Crop and Production':
Eighth std students from Tuticorin school grew plants as part of the agricultural practice project based on the science lesson “Crops and Production”. The objective of the project was to learn the process of preparing the soil before sowing seeds and observing the number of days taken for the seedlings to grow, days required for first bloom, first harvest and amount of yield. The students chose to grow lady fingers as it has a short growth period.

The yield from first harvest was 4 kg 150 gms.
Math Activity 'Shapes and Combined Figures':
Activities inspire students to go beyond rote learning to showcase their creativity. Villupuram School Math Teacher Ms. Parameshwari asked 8th std students to create models based on the lesson “Shapes and Combined Figures”. The result was models of a house, railway station, car, funny faces and more.
T. Karthikeyan wins in Archery Competition:
7th std Vanavasi School student T. Karthikeyan won the 1st prize in the 5th Tamil Nadu State Level Valvil Oori Archery championship – 2013. Congratulations Karthikeyan!
Rangoli Competition:
A Rangoli Competition was organized for students of 6th to 9th std. Many students chose to use the theme “National Symbols” to create designs of Peacock (National Bird), Lotus (National Flower), Jawahar Lal Nehru (National Leader) etc. The students participated enthusiastically to complete their designs in allocated time.
Butterflies Lifecycle Project:
Eight std students of Tuticorin School undertook a science project based on lifecycle of butterflies. They collected some leaves with butterflies’ eggs and stored them in a box with holes on top. The holes provided passage for fresh air as well as gave them observation opportunity.

The students recorded the time eggs took to hatch into caterpillars (5 days), relentless eating of fresh leaves by caterpillars and subsequently building a wall around themselves to turn into pupae and finally the most exciting part when beautiful butterflies broke out of the cocoons.
