Aadi Perukku Celebrations at Coimbatore School:
Aadi Perukku is a unique festival celebrated in Tamil Nadu as a form of thanksgiving offered to the water resources. This also marks the beginning of rice cultivation in most parts of the state.

The preparation for the celebration started a week earlier. Some of the students wrote essays on "Journey of River" in English and Tamil, while others wrote poems in Tamil. Younger students drew pictures based on the same theme. The students also engaged actively and experientially with the true spirit of the festival. With the help of a teacher, 9th Std students designed and constructed a dam, a canal and field for a sowing seeds on the school grounds. Another team of students, along with teachers, made traditional "molapaari." "Molapaari" is growing of saplings from sprouted beans.

On the festival day, the dam was opened and water flowed through the canal. Students visited the dam site and offered flowers to the river. During the program, two students explained the significance of the festival while students from 1st and 2nd Std presented river songs.

As is the tradition, girls and lady teachers laid 'molapaari' in the school ground and danced kummi around it. Later the "molapaari" was taken in a procession to the canal and it was floated in the water.

Perhaps next year you can plan a visit to our school to experience the beauty of this festival?
Visit to Salem Govt Schools:
Isha Vidhya's Academic coordinator, Ms. Diana, recently visited Salem Districts’ schools.

Our coordinators visit government schools adopted under GSAP program to assess school infrastructure and availability of facilities. Interaction with the students give them a real picture of students' level of knowledge of English, an important component of GSAP program.

The coordinators also hold discussions with government teachers, learning about their problems and the areas where they want help. Giving voice to the teachers has helped in effective delivery of GSAP program. The motivation level of the teachers improves when they realize that no one is blaming them for low performance level of the students; we want to work with them to improve it.

One step at a time, we hope to spread the program through entire rural India to revolutionize the Education system.
Cuddalore teachers win awards:

We are very proud when our teachers win awards for recognition of their work. Each year Karadi path recognizes teachers for their efforts and results.

Cuddalore School teacher, Mr. Kanagaraj, bagged the 3rd prize as Power English teacher. Cuddalore school had another feather in their cap when their Kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Kundhavi bagged the Best Writer award for her short story in the Neyveli book exhibition. Out of 31 contestants, she was selected as winner. Kundhavi loves to write and participates regularly in competitions.
