Elections at Tuticorin School:
Tuticorin School held elections for Student Pupil Leader (SPL) and Assistant Student Pupil Leader (ASPL).
Students from 8th and 9th Std could be nominated for the SPL post while those from 6th and 7th Std could be nominated for the post of ASPL. Rules and regulations, in line with state elections, were explained during the assembly.
Nominees could canvas till 48 hours before elections and all students from 4th class onwards had the right to vote. Three Election Commissioners took care of the proceeding on election day. The students stood for their chance to vote in a line, entering the booth one by one, voting and getting their finger inked.
Praveen of 8th Std was elected as SPL and Akshadha of 6th Std was elected as ASPL. Congratulations to both of them!

HIV awareness Program:
Rural Tamil Nadu has seen a massive increase in cases of HIV and AIDS. Lack of information and misinformation is contributing to a rapid rise in the number. Chief Educational officer Salem district conducted an awareness program in schools along with Junior Red Cross. Isha Vidhya Vanavasi school students were also called to attend such a program at Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Jalakandapuram.
The students learnt about the disease, methods to prevent it and to get tested for it. Badges and cap from Junior Red cross team were also given to the students.

Teachers' training under GSAP:
Two day training in Maths and English was held for Kalpakkam Schools under GSAP on 26th and 27th December and at Vanavasi School for Salem Model School teachers from 29th to 30th December. 12 teachers participated in the first training and 6 teachers in the 2nd training.
They covered topics like Fractions, Algebra, Decimals and Data handling followed by activities and mock class. In English they refreshed phonetic words and covered essay writing, concepts like singular and plural and translation of sentences between English and Tamil. After covering the topics, the teachers prepared mock class lessons and took classes.
