Making Lives - Ford Employees
“We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.” ~ Winston S. Churchill

On 26th March 2015 over 75 Ford employees from Coimbatore came together to create learning material for Isha Vidhya schools and schools adopted under the Government School Adoption Program (GSAP).

Learning Material kits used at Isha Vidhya and GSAP schools help children learn subjects in an interactive fashion. These kits help students understand the topics quickly, retain knowledge longer and achieve better results.

It was a wonderful show by Ford employees. The raw material for creating these kits was sponsored by the Company and the dedication of the volunteers was amazing. We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all the volunteers and the management team who supported this event.

Note: The learning material kits created by volunteers is cheaper by almost 50%. If you are interested in partnerning with us, please contact Prabhu Loganathan at prabhu.loganathan@ishavidhya.org or call at +91 94890-45045 for details.

Trek to Kalakad Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve
7th Std students of Tuticorin School went on a trek to Mundathurai. They started early in the morning, picking up students from various meeting points. In total 60 students, 24 teachers and 6 parents went on the trek.

While travelling to Mundathurai, they sang songs and even danced in the bus. Soon after de-boarding at 10.30 am, they had breakfast at the beautiful dam. They met Mr. Elango, a forest officer, who spoke about the importance of forests and about Mundanthurai. He also asked some questions and gave prizes to those who answered correctly.

Kalakad Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve (KMTR) is located in Tamilnadu at the southern tip of the Western Ghats. Mundanthurai is hilly and quite steep in places. At the start of their journey they crossed a dry lake. The weather was pleasant, with a slight drizzle at times. They were lucky to see many animals, including a slender loris (Thevaangu). They also saw monkeys including naughty ones who grabbed food from students.

The group had their lunch up on the hill and then played for a while before making their way down, collecting several things on the way, things they had learnt about in classes - a stone full of Bryophytes, a stick full of flowers which looked like mushroom, forest centipedes etc. Even though kids were not allowed to bathe in the river due to the increased level of water, they took a dip in the canal.

Finally the party returned home.

Blood count levels of students were tested and those who were found to be anemic were given medicines. Students were taught about proper hand-washing and brushing techniques after a discussion on the importance of personal hygiene.

Leads to Corporate CSR teams
Many companies are willing to contribute towards socially productive activities. Rather than investing their manpower, they are looking to partner with organizations which not only work at ground level but also provide regular reports from the field.

Isha Vidhya is keen to be the connecting factor between benefactors and beneficiaries. We have an exemplary track record of providing quality education to rural underprivileged kids. Our students are performing well in State and National Level competitions. The program where we are adopting government schools to improve quality of education and enhance students' performance levels has become a success. Other districts and states are also approaching us to adopt more government schools!

To expand the program to more schools we need funds.

You can help by connecting us with CSR teams. We have several projects that are awaiting funds for implementation. To know more or share contact details, please mail Mr. Prabhu Loganathan at prabhu.loganathan@ishavidhya.org or call at +94890 45045.

We have several other volunteering opportunities. To know about them, please register* as a Friend of Isha Vidhya .

*The registration process will take less than a minute.
Critical Requirement - Sponsorship for students
With your encouragement and support we at Isha Vidhya have started a mini revolution in rural Tamil Nadu. When they said it can't be done, we responded by doing it. Rural kids are not only learning and competing with students from best of city schools, they are also enjoying the process of learning.

Faces of students glow with excitement as they troop into school. They look forward to learning! Our teachers are also learning continuously to deliver results that they never imagined

This has been possible because so many of you came forward to sponsor education for rural kids. We request you to renew your sponsorship. It will remove the worry of generating funds so that we can concentrate on developing teachers and teaching material.

Help us reach out to a larger number of donors. You might need more information to convince others to support us. Please check our facebook page. to know about the school activities. You can write to us at info@ishavidhya.org for more information.
