Educating Rural India July 2014
Training of teachers under GSAP:
A four day training on Maths, Tamil and basic methodology was held in June for teachers in the GSAP program at three different locations to cater to the three districts of Coimbatore, Salem and Dharmapuri. The training and the training material like dedicated manuals, activity list etc were designed to cater to students' needs. The emphasis was on play-way techniques, which the participants embraced with enthusiasm.

Many activities were planned, since making students attend school daily is one of the main challenges teachers face..

The focus on Day One was the use of skits for basic classroom management techniques. Discussions about the methods employed in skits to deal with different scenarios helped the teachers learn essential aspects of effective classroom management techniques.

The other three days were divided equally between Tamil and Math subject training. Games and activities were shared to motivate the students towards learning. This year we introduced dedicated manual and worksheets for the GSAP program, and teachers were trained on effective usage of these. They were also taught how to prepare and use flash cards for the games that were played in the training, and for different levels of learning.

Before end of training, teachers were asked to give feedback. The training team uses the feedback for improving on subsequent training.
