Summer holidays are here with us. Even though students will not be coming to the school, hectic activity will ensue in preparation for the new academic year. Training programs will be conducted, teacher recruited for increased number of students, registration process activated in all the nine schools and construction started where new classrooms are to be built to accommodate senior students.

We are piloting Citywide Book Drive in Chennai. Supporters and their children, who are also free due to summer vacations, are coming together to collect story books, comics, children's magazines, science magazines etc for school libraries. The program is self-driven by volunteers, with a defined drop point for books. If you want to join the drive, drop us a mail at prabhu.loganathan@ishavidhya.org and we will forward the details.
Feature: Basic Methodology training under GSAP
Isha was approached to help bring about a transformation in Govt School teachers and improving their productivity. The program was to also inspire teachers in taking ownership in students' well-being and improving learning outcomes. As a pilot to the program, a series of interventions have been planned with 100 schools, 50 schools each from Cuddalore and Villupuram.

Under Government School Adoption Program, a 3 day "Basic Methodology" workshop was conducted for 99 Primary and Upper primary school heads and teachers in Parangipettai block of Cuddalore and Thiruvennainallur block of Villupuram district. Mr. Sushilkumar, Mr. Senthil and Mr. Barani, School Coordinators of Isha Vidhya handled the two workshops that took place simultaneously.

The workshop aimed to prepare the teachers in handling student related problems in regular classrooms. The participants learnt to approach the class-room problems in a positive manner without compromising their emotional balance and at the same time not putting down the emotional and social well-being of the students. During these 3 days, teachers were given practical training by way of skits performances depicting typical class room situations, group discussions, debates etc. Games were also conducted, which could be played in regular classrooms, to keep-up the energy level of the participants and to provide them solution for handling the monotony of the normal teaching process.

Even though all the participants were school heads or teachers with vast experience, they shed their ego and inhibition and actively participated in the all the activities. They appreciated our trainers for their lively sessions and ability in making them realize the points. The participants enjoyed the intense workshop and conveyed their eagerness to implement their learning in their institution. They requested the Joint Director, Mrs Latha, to conduct more such workshops – for their teachers as well as for other schools in the district. They also wanted yoga classes to be conducted in their schools.

The inspiring atmosphere of Isha Vidhya schools - its cleanliness, students, the methodology and the staff, touched all and they vowed to bring about positive transformation in their own schools.

Video Filming:We are looking for volunteers who can create short video films on various aspects of Isha Vidhya. We want to bring stories of our students alive, the impact of the project in the life of students and their family. Our teachers work hard to make the lessons interesting by creating new activities. These activities, if filmed and posted on youtube, will help parents and other teachers in improving their lesson plans.

If you are interested in this work and can spare few days to travel to our schools, please drop us a mail at vinod.hari@ishavidhya.org.
