From the Editor
Monsoon - the magical time in India when nature reminds us that it is possible for barren land to turn fertile. If we create the right conditions, it is possible for the landscape to turn into millions of shades of green. Isha Vidhya, through its programs and schools, is helping a new generation of rural kids become vibrant, creative, confident world citizens.

Give India, a platform that connects concerned citizens with NGOs working on social issues, will be hosting the fund-raising event India Giving Challenge from 9th September 2014 to 31st October 2014. Yes! Isha Vidhya will be participating to raise funds to meet the critical infrastructure needs of its 8 schools. We need to build 47 classrooms, each costing approximately Rs 7,62,000, totaling a whopping $68,000. There are many other infrastructural and classroom requirements that need to be met urgently.

Will you support us? Help us spread the word to your friends, colleagues, family and relatives. Inspire your organization to contribute on our iGive page. Check updates on our facebook page to know more about our campaign and success in it. Drop us a mail at asmita.sinha@ishavidhya to know more about our campaign or share your suggestions.

We hope, with your support, we will be able to make a big dent in our fund requirement to equip the schools and ensure quality education, as each child deserves.

Come, educate India.

Isha Vidhya Team
Feature: Mathematics Teacher Training Workshop
A teacher training workshop for Mathematics was held for twenty enthusiastic teachers at beginning of the current academic year at Isha Vidhya Cuddalore. The beautiful campus was a perfect venue and the staff of the school spared no effort to make the workshop memorable and comfortable for the participants.

Months of planning and preparation went into defining the workshop content. The Maths team researched current best practices and also observed classroom teaching at Isha Vidhya schools to finalize the workshop modules and training requirements. During the week-long course, the teachers were up-skilled in the latest teaching methodology, assessment techniques, cooperative learning (peer sharing), rubrics, and improved student motivation through the use of mathematical games.

Once the concepts and course rationale had been discussed, the teachers were given an opportunity to exhibit their new knowledge and skills by presenting a demonstration lesson. The lesson showed their understanding of how to take multi-levelled groups, play maths games and teach mathematical concepts through the use of learning kits.

At Isha, it's never about hard work only; the teachers were treated to some very entertaining cooperative games, led by Silambarasan, one of the course leaders. The local beach was frequented by the teachers as an excellent place to cool off in the evenings.

Donations and Investments
Critical requirements:

We don't want to always include this section but what we want is insignificant when compared to the needs of the children in the rural areas where we operate. These kids will either drop out from schools due to lack of motivation or not get quality education. If we want to create a better world, we have to provide quality education to each section of the society. Rural poor are the least served so they need our help the most.

With 9 Isha Vidhya schools and 40 schools under Govt School Adoption Program (GSAP), the requirement for funds is massive. We need hundreds and thousands of sponsors for academic, transport and noon-meal scholarships. Are you willing to be that person who can give hope to one child or feed one child in a school?

You can also sponsor a child's education or donate for other requirements. Details are available here
